On some days I was actually thankful for my chemistry of wine class, because it forced me to stay in and study…Why? This has been the coldest spring in thirty
years, rainy and windy, blustery even into June. The vines are behind their usual
pace and the shivering shoots have only 8 leaves and tightly closed flower clusters.
Bloom seems like a distant dream and the color of the leaves is little on the
yellowish side because there has not been enough sun to bring out all the intense
chlorophyll that should be there by now. I am torn between thinking that this will
be a spectacular year in spite of the slow start and maybe we won’t have grapes at
